Every year a month or two before SXSW, labels, publicists, and managers would start pitching their acts for a slot in our two-a-day studio tapings. We discovered a lot of great music that way, and it was fun to help turn on other folks to up-and-coming artists.
In 2018, I ignored an email from Interscope Records, who’d written to see if we could squeeze in a new artist called Billie Eilish. By the time I replied, she’d already committed to a Spotify thing with her brother.
